The LA Alliance
The LA Alliance for Human Rights is a coalition of downtown business owners, residents, landlords, and formerly unhoused individuals united by one goal: to demand accountability and real solutions to Los Angeles’s homelessness crisis. Formed in 2020, the group filed a landmark lawsuit against the City and County of Los Angeles, arguing that years of government inaction had allowed unsafe, unsanitary, and inhumane conditions to take over public spaces. Their case became one of the most significant legal efforts to address homelessness in L.A., bringing unprecedented attention and urgency to the issue.
Since then, the Alliance has pushed officials into binding, court-enforced agreements that have already changed the trajectory of local policy. Their impact can be seen in:
Securing settlements that require the City to create thousands of new shelter and housing units by set deadlines.
Forcing the County to expand mental health and substance-use treatment, with over 3,000 new treatment beds committed.
Establishing accountability, with court oversight and quarterly progress reports that keep leaders from backtracking.
By combining legal action with community advocacy, the LA Alliance has transformed frustration into enforceable change. They continue to monitor progress, hold leaders accountable, and advocate for solutions that address both immediate safety concerns and long-term housing and treatment needs—helping ensure that Los Angeles moves toward a more humane and effective response to homelessness.
